tasting notes
When there is a cool, long growing season as in 2023, an atypical Napa Valley Syrah such as this is the result. It shows as a refined, relatively elegant, focused Syrah with lower alcohol level, reflective of the vintage. It is dark, concentrated, intense, and yet fresh. It is complex with blackberry, smokey, cured meat, sage, lavender notes, and a very long finish. This begs for salt and fat such as a thick piece of bacon. Too bad that guy who talks about Flavortown is not having it. It will be interesting to watch it develop with cellar age as it sheds some of its acidity and gains harmony.
